Heidelberg Castle Illuminations of
1 September 2007
Heidelberg Castle Illuminations are a magnificent show of fireworks taking place thrice a year.
The castle bathed in a mysterious red light that blurs the contours. Smoke rises and the castle appears to be in flames.
The street lighting in the Old Town of Heidelberg and the suburb of Neuenheim opposite is switched off, from time to time the castle itself is in darkness and the marvelous firework show offers one highlight after another.
The Old Bridge and the buildings along the water's edge are only lit by the reflection of the fireworks.
Cascades of fire fall from the Old Bridge
and once again the fireworks build up to their last crescendo.
Many boats and yachts follow the fireworks from the Neckar River while the banks are lined with thousands of visitors. This is the boat "Schloss Heidelberg" entering the lock beneath Heidelberg Castle.

Yachts and boats packed tightly together downstream from the Old Bridge waiting for the fireworks.
In one of the villas in Neuenheim, a Castle Fireworks party is in full swing with live music.
