Getting to Heidelberg

Heidelberg can be reached easily by train or car. The motorway ends in the Heidelberg district of Bergheim. If you drive straight along the Bergheimer Strasse you will reach Bismarckplatz (Bismarck Square), the center of Heidelberg.

If, on leaving the motorway, you take a left turn then you can drive along the Neckar River. All hotels can be reached easily from here. A special guidance system allows you to find your hotel straight away, irrespective of how you reached Heidelberg.

Heidelberg lies on the railway line between Mannheim and Stuttgart and is covered by the tram network of the Rhein-Neckar area (S-Bahn Verbundnetz Rhein-Neckar). This means that not only the Main Station (Hauptbahnhof) but also the individual suburbs are well accessible by tram.

Good bus and additional tram connections complement the overall S-Bahn network.

Heidelberg Old Town is compact enough to reach everything on foot.

The funicular railway to the castle can also easily be reached on foot from the Old Town.

A regular shuttle service ferries hotel guests from the Rhein-Main Airport at Frankfurt to Heidelberg and back.

Area-wide WLAN Network

Heidelberg has had an area-wide WLAN network since 2006.

Using a WLAN-compatible telephone (from a PDA, smartphone to a cellphone) you can log in via www.heidelberg-mobil.de and take advantage of what it has to offer. At present this is free of charge.

Along with tourist information you will find all sorts of information about the town itself and the e-government of the town administration; mobile information services for companies with a large number of employees at their company locations; mobile assistance systems for trade fairs and exhibitions, as well as mobile assistance systems for the largest shopping centers and shopping malls where you can find what you are looking for or the right shop by using your mobile phone. "Simply log in and you have a map of the town and further information on the display straight away," Christoph Zwiener of Heidelberg Mobil GmbH says.

When you purchase the Heidelberg Card, which comes with a guide and a map of the town, you can use the funicular railway free of charge, visit the castle for free and enjoy many other reductions and advantages!
